1. Swordsman (Male)
2. Mage (Male)
3. Acolyte (Female)
All three jobs have the same stats foundations, which consist in: STR (Strength), AGI (Agility), VIT (Vitality), INT (Intelligence) and SPR (Spirit). With these stats you can build different type of characters to play with.
Once you reach job level 32, you will advance to a different job.
1. Swordsman: This character masters swords and it's advanced job is a Knight.
There are 3 main types of Swordsman/Knight: Vitality, Agility and Hybrid.
Vitality type: Swordsman that have high VIT and STR and therefore are very resistant to monster attacks. This is the perfect type to begin with, because you can kill strong monsters without using to much healing items.
Agility type: Swordsman that have high AGI and STR. Their attack speed (ASPD) is so fast that the monsters don't get the chance to hit them. This type one is better when your level is a little bit higher, because if you do get hit, you will receive a lot of damage.
Hybrid type: Swordsman that have high STR and all the others stats in balanced (with minimum SPR and a little bit more VIT than AGI). This is the perfect mix and it's also good for beginners.
2. Mage: This characters masters magic and it's advanced job is a Wizard.
There are 2 main types of Mage/Wizard: PvM (player vs monster) and PvP (Player vs Player)
PvM: Mage that has high INT, DEX and SPR. This one is good for collecting items, because you can kill a lot of monsters at a time.
PvP: Mage that has algo high INT and DEX but also a higher VIT to avoid being kill by other players.
3. Acolyte: This characters masters another type of healing and recovery magic and it's advanced job is a priest.
There are 3 main types of Acolyte/Priest: Support, Battleand a Hybrid.
Support: Acolyte that has high INT, VIT and SPR. This character helps others by giving them support skills. (a.k.a "buffs") It is good to have support acolytes for PvP and MvP. (This is one is hard to level by your own, so you better level on a party)
Battle: Acolyte that has high STR, AGI and medium INT and DEX. High attack speed to avoid being hit by the enemy and enough SP to use support skills on your own. This type is good for beginners because you can kill strong monsters without any help.
Hybrid: Acolyte that has high INT and DEX and medium VIT. This type is good for battle and support.

Once you decided on you job, you can choose to enter the game directly or to do the tutorial.
There is no reward for doing the tutorial, so I really don't recommend doing it. Besides that, there is an in game tutorial that would give you zeny (In game currency), useful items, and expirience (To level up).
If you've played Ragnarok Online before, you will notice that although there are a lot of features that are the same, there are also a lot of new things to explore.
